IlloFriday....metropolitan...
metropolitan
Posted by Picasa
here it is. an early one for me. actually, i sort of cheated. i had this one in my sketchbook and really liked it so i wanted to show it off. and what better topic than metropolitan to use it for. this was a sketch i had done a while back, and wanted to make one out of every medium i could find. i wanted to do one out of colored pencils, crayons, paints, newspaper clippings, pastels, charcoals..... anything. but turns out i only did one in pastels, pencil, and crayons. this one is, as you can probably tell, pastels. i started dipping into other pieces that emerged from this one little idea so of course i pushed it aside and starting working on my new ideas. ah well. guess this one can be picked up again sometime down the road and will come out even better than what i had planned. hope you guys like it and i will definately look forward to your feedback, just as i always do. so enjoy.

I really like the loose lines and spontaneity. Flame shaped glass globe? Kudos :)

great concept! a city afloat inside a blue flame... is it in the stance of turmoil or in the heat of society's hopes?

wow u guys really said u would get deep on your comments. actually, this one was from my year when i was suppose to go to california as my graduation gift and had my flight cancelled due to 9-11. the blue 'flame' is a tear coming from me, just enlarged, with the reflection of the city in it. the green 'bat' is a street sign in the background, but i didnt want to put lettering on it, but just leave it as is. when my flight was cancelled and my gift ruined, i was really upset and came up with this piece. ive always wanted to visit california, and still to this day i havent.
but i think i like your guys interpretation better. :)

I loved it and thought it was a drop of water at first...maybe showing how delicate cities and civilization and life is. But thank you for your explanation. Great piece. I would want to share it too!

ChaCha....I dig it, as always ;) I thought it was a water droplet with the reflection of the city. I love the colors and especially love the added texture to the green sign. Theres just something about a good squiggle. Yeah doesnt look like Ill be getting an illo up this friday, heck i still have to put up picks of the new ride!

You should definitely try doing Photo Friday too, but I have to admit, it's definitely not as cool or fun as Illustration Friday. I just don't feel that I get as much out of it I guess.
10:35 AM
yeah i understand. i love illofriday more cuz its a more hands on project whereas photo friday just seems like snapping the photo and letting the computer do all the work. ill have to try it out though, having access to a digital camera, it might help expand my photo portfolio. and i agree cheryl, i always love a good squiggle. weird but alright. :)

so yeah i think i had heard the story before, and it cool to see the picture. i am kind of proud because i identifed the green part as a street sign before i read it, but i saw the teardrop as a flame that was sharing the street sign as a matchstick, but i love lamp, so who am i to judge.

i remember when that trip was cancelled - it was a huge bummer all around... the context you gave about the picture relating to that makes perfect sense, chach... the city in the teardrop is beautiful too... another chacha illofriday screaming success!!... =)

If I look at this a certain way, it kinda looks like the back of a womans' head, she has blue hair with brownstone buildings as highlites. She is wearing a gray turtleneck and is carrying a green umbrella to shade her eyes.
She is heading to the supermarket to buy some brick flavor eggplants and a bottle of Marge Simpson brand shampoo...
:-D
Sorry, I wish you had a chance to go to California. Hey, maybe someone will see this painting and offer to display it in a San Diego art gallery!
I said it, now let it be so...
6:45 PM
wow thats an awesome yet very vivid imagination you got there. and yeah how kool would that be to actually have someone want to display my artwork anywhere! ive always wanted to display my stuff. ah well who knows.

I thought it was a tear (either that or a drip from a tap). Doing a reflected Metropolis is an inspired idea and you brought it off beautifully!
